Published January 24th 2013 by Tall House Books
Kelsey Edmundson is a geek and proud of it. She makes no secret of her love for TV, movies, and, most especially, books. After a bad breakup, she retreats into her favorite novel, Pride and Prejudice, wishing she had some of the wit and spirit of Elizabeth Bennett.

One night at a party Kelsey meets handsome Australian bartender Mark Barnes. From then on, she always seems to run into him when she least expects it. No matter how Kelsey tries, she always seems to say the wrong thing.

After a particularly gaffe-filled evening around Mark, Kelsey is in desperate need of inspiration from Jane Austen. She falls asleep reading Darcy’s letter to Lizzy and awakens to find herself in an unfamiliar place that looks and sounds suspiciously like her favorite book. Has she somehow been transported into Pride and Prejudice, or is it just a dream?

As Kelsey tries to discover what’s happening to her, she must also discover her own heart. Is Mark Barnes destined to be her Mr. Darcy? In the end, she must decide whether attempting to become Elizabeth is worth the risk or if being Kelsey Edmundson is enough.

Jessica is offering up a audiobook of Attempting Elizabeth to one lucky Austen in August reader!  You can listen to a sample of here, and as Jess said, "The narrator is fantabulous and I just threw the kitchen sink at her with accents, there's American, British, and Aussie!"  So, you know...might want to check that out. ;)
Ends September 7th, 12a EST. Fill out the Rafflecopter below to enter. And make sure to check out Jessica's piece on gender-flipping P&P, and her parts in this year's Janeite conversations!

  1. I have already read a gender flipped Pride and Prejudice and enjoyed it, so like the idea of reading another

  2. I love a good audiobook, and a retelling of an Austen classic with flipped gender roles sounds like a lot of fun. Audiobooks FTW.

  3. This is the first I've read about a gender-flipped Austen so I think it would be interesting!

  4. I love retellings of Austen classics! They make me smile. I think that the gender flipping is very reflective of gender roles/issues in current society. Look forward to reading/listening to this one!

  5. This sounds so good and has aroused my curiosity after the gender swapping post.

    Thanks for the giveaway opportunity.

  6. I don't spend enough time with audiobooks, even though I love them dearly, plus this giveaway ends on my BIRTHDAY, SO IT IS MINE BY RIGHT. Er, I mean, gee willikers I sure would like to win me an audiobook! :P

  7. This sounds like a lot of fun to switch the roles around! It should be interesting. I need a new audiobook. I've listened to everything I have.

  8. Aside from the author's hair making me squee and clap my hands, and being recently addicted to audio books (do the dishes without one? Tish tosh!), I love the concept of flipping the masculine coldness/insecurity of Darcy into a woman. And also, if I had the main character's ability, I'm pretty sure my actual life would fall by the wayside.
Also, sophieweeks.net, yesterday was MY birthday, so I think I get it first. ;)

    1. Thank you for the hair compliment, Beth! :D And happy belated Birthday!

  9. I've been wanting to read this for awhile, since I heard about it on IndieJane. But now that it's an audio book even better. I'm a huge audiobook person, but so far I've only attempted one JAFF audio and honestly had to shut it off, as the narrator did not do it justice. So now seeing such a glowing recommendation on the narration I'd love to check it out!

  10. I'm always looking for fun, unique Austenesque novels and I think gender-flipping certainly fits the bill!

  11. Elizabeth is awesome! I cannot say enough good things about her!

  12. sounds very original and it would be interesting to read: )

  13. I love that she is a geek and knows that a good book heals!

Tell me all your thoughts.
Let's be best friends.
