So settle in and get ready to Speak Out.
Speak, by Laurie Halse Anderson
Here is the little piece I cut from the reading:
THE FIRST TEN LIES THEY TELL YOU IN HIGH SCHOOL:
- We are here to help you.
- You will have enough time to get to your class before the bell rings.
- The dress code will be enforced.
- No smoking is allowed on school grounds.
- Our fottball team will win the championship this year.
- We expect more of you here.
- Guidance counselors are always available to listen.
- Your schedule was created with you in mind.
- Your locker combination is private.
- These will be the years you look back on fondly.

Awesome!
ReplyDeleteI still can't believe there is even a banning controversy over this book. So crazy. I think a lot of good things have happened because of it though. I have read some amazing articles, and it's good timing with Banned Book Week.
ReplyDeleteThe author has discussed a very resourceful topic in times of the pandemic. We, as a nation, cannot keep our children out of schools forever. Hence a plan needs to be implemented where children can safely go to school without getting mass infected. However, it is not recommended for parents or children to go physically to the shops for book supplies. Hence there is a need for an online book shop such as KitaabNow.
