Backlist Love (7): Vessel, The Space Between & Immortal Beloved!

Need a little break from Austen in August? Have I got just the think for you!
These books! They're good ones!

This video (and TWO MORE backlist love vids!) has been lingering in my uploads, waiting to be shared... sorry about that!
Let me know some of you fave backlist titles in the comments, and your thoughts / read-alike recommendations, if you've read these books!

Backlist love, favorite books, Sarah Beth Durst, ya fantasy

Liyana has trained her entire life to be the vessel of a goddess. The goddess will inhabit Liyana’s body and use magic to bring rain to the desert. But Liyana’s goddess never comes. Abandoned by her angry tribe, Liyana expects to die in the desert. Until a boy walks out of the dust in search of her.

Korbyn is a god inside his vessel, and a trickster god at that. He tells Liyana that five other gods are missing, and they set off across the desert in search of the other vessels. For the desert tribes cannot survive without the magic of their gods. But the journey is dangerous, even with a god’s help. And not everyone is willing to believe the trickster god’s tale.

The closer she grows to Korbyn, the less Liyana wants to disappear to make way for her goddess. But she has no choice: She must die for her tribe to live. Unless a trickster god can help her to trick fate—or a human girl can muster some magic of her own.

Backlist love, favorite books, Brenna Yovanoff, ya fantasy

A transcendent novel about a demon girl's search for love, from the New York Times bestselling author of The Replacement

Everything burns in Pandemonium, a city in Hell made of chrome and steel, where there is no future and life is an expanse of frozen time. That's where Daphne--the daughter of Lilith and Lucifer--waits, wondering what lies in store for her. Will she become a soulless demon like her sisters? Or follow in the footsteps of her brother Obie, whose life is devoted to saving lost souls on Earth? But when Obie saves a troubled boy named Truman from the brink of death and then goes missing, Daphne is catapulted on a mission to Earth, with Truman as her guide. As Daphne and Truman search for Obie, they discover what it means to love and be human in a world where human is the hardest thing to be.

Backlist love, favorite books, Cate Tiernan, ya fantasy

Cate Tiernan, author of the popular Sweep series, returns with Immortal Beloved a breathtaking new romance, and the first book in a stunning new fantasy trilogy.

Nastasya has spent the last century living as a spoiled, drugged-out party girl. She feels nothing and cares for no one. But when she witnesses her best friend, a Dark Immortal, torture a human, she realizes something's got to change. She seeks refuge at a rehab for wayward immortals, where she meets the gorgeous, undeniably sexy Reyn, who seems inexplicably linked to her past.

  1. Oh yay! When I first started following your blog, you mentioned Sarah Beth Durst being an auto-buy author, aaaaand so I bought Vessel. But I haven't read it yet. And clearly I should! The other two sound interesting as well. I'm all about great characters! My current backlist love rec is Among Others by Jo Walton. It's got fantastic world-building...it's set in 1980s Wales, but it's also a fantasy novel, and also a scifi, and overall jus so unique that I couldn't stop reading it.
I hope you're feeling better, too!

  2. I love that you do this post because each time there is at least one that I really connect with. I want Vessel now. :)

Tell me all your thoughts.
Let's be best friends.
