Friday Face Off: Between the Sea and Sky v. Lost Voices

Liz wanted to see these two lovely covers face off, and I can't blame her.  Even those these two certainly aren't cover twins, these two very prettily-clad mermaid books definitely give the same impression.  So what do you guys think?  Which cover do you like more?  Which one are you more likely to pick up?
Which did it better?

Last Week on FFO: We had a three-fer, with Tantalize, Ivy and Bree's Fire all facing off against each other.  Tantalize won hands down, and I can see why: the darker coloring on the book makes the whole thing pop.  But some of you did like the snake on Ivy, and I personally liked the super close cropping and softer look of Bree's Fire.

That said, Tantalize is definitely the winnah --->

  1. Even though I was the one who suggested this, I'm still going to vote :P

It's hard to choose, because these are both really beautiful covers. However, I think Between the Sea and Sky utilizes the different hues of blue and white a little bit better. You can't really tell what's going on below the waist--is the white supposed to be a skirt? Does she have fins? I think it creates a more intriguing image. Plus, the all-around effect is just gorgeous!

  2. I completely agree with Liz! Although they are both pretty, Jaclyn Dolamore's cover is prettier! I like it a lot better.

  3. Both SO good. Do I have to choose? Ok I choose Between the Sea and Sky because it's cool and I've never seen that done before.

  7. Love the left one...it's just super pretty and mysterious. Though, the right one is still pretty. I haven't actually read a mermaid novel unless you count The Little Mermaid Disney kids book back in the day...

They're both lovely, but I'm going with the Lost Voices cover because it plausibly portrays a mermaid, while the Between the Sea and Sky cover has an awkwardly posed model surrounded by forced swirly graphics.

  10. They're both nice, but I'm voting for Lost Voices! I think it's much more visually appealing, and it probably says more about the story. I'm guessing those are fins on the B in Between the Sea and Sky. Had it not been next to Lost Voices, I would have assumed it was an anchor. I'm silly.

Anyway...both of these covers are interesting. And I'm now looking into checking both these books out!

  11. I have to agree with Liz about BtSaS. I think it has a mystery to it, but what really does it for me is that it captures the story -- it's watery and it's airy, and that's what the story is going to take if the characters are going to get together -- it has to have both.
