Coming Attraction: The Crown of Embers

Looking at this upcoming sequel reminds me that I still need to read The Girl of Fire and Thorns.
#So many books
#So little time...
Who's eagerly awaiting this one? And who wants to give me the push I need to read Girl of Fire and Thorns? If you loved it, leave a comment that makes me need to read it - I need to start working through my shelves...

The Crown of Embers by Rae Carson
Fantasy, 410 pages
Expected publication: September 18th 2012 by Greenwillow Books
In the sequel to the acclaimed The Girl of Fire and Thorns, a seventeen-year-old princess turned war queen faces sorcery, adventure, untold power, and romance as she fulfills her epic destiny.

Elisa is the hero of her country. She led her people to victory against a terrifying enemy, and now she is their queen. But she is only seventeen years old. Her rivals may have simply retreated, choosing stealth over battle. And no one within her court trusts her-except Hector, the commander of the royal guard, and her companions. As the country begins to crumble beneath her and her enemies emerge from the shadows, Elisa will take another journey. With a one-eyed warrior, a loyal friend, an enemy defector, and the man she is falling in love with, Elisa crosses the ocean in search of the perilous, uncharted, and mythical source of the Godstone's power. That is not all she finds. A breathtaking, romantic, and dangerous second volume in the Fire and Thorns trilogy.

  2. Girl of Fire and Thorns was one of my absolute favorites of everything I read last year. It's really rare to have a sympathetic, overweight protagonist -- it seems like all YA has girls who feel uncomfortable with how skinny they are, and while intellectually I sympathize with that body image, emotionally I just think, "Oh boo hoo, get over it...."

And ASIDE from that, there's a great character arc, great setting, lots of believable emotional connections, and a fast-paced, tense plot.

Yeah... I'm going to be getting the sequel ASAP! So consider this a nudge! Read it! :)

  3. I am now crazy excited about this sequel too -- I've had an ARC (that I won from another blogger) of Girl of Fire & Thorns on my shelf for quite a while now, and just read it last week. Ah-mazing. I read it in like, 2 days. And that only because Life got in the way ;o) I didn't really expect to love it, but I totally did.

Looking forward to seeing what you think!
