Friday Face Off: Crown of Midnight

We've actually had a Face Off with the first book in Sarah J. Maas' Throne of Glass series, in which the UK cover won, hands down. Now that the second book, Crown of Midnight is about to come out (well, this summer, anyway), I noticed that the US publishers must have agreed - the US version of Crown has adopted the stylized look of the UK original, and the second books have the same basic cover art in both the US and UK - though they're styled very different.
Below are what the US and UK teams did with the same cover art - which would you reach for? Do the subtle changes in cropping, font and coloration draw you more toward one or the other?
Which one did it better?

Last Week on FFO: The original and spanking-new upcoming cover of Jessica Day George's fantastic Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow went head to head, and though a number of you loved the heightened fantasy of the new cover, most of us were purists. The clean, unfettered, intriguing original one, but either way, you should pick up this book!

  1. I'm not sure why but the US version looks more like a woman, where in the UK version I could mistake her for a man... Either way they're both b.a.! I would have to grab the US though because of the font and scrolls...

  2. Both covers are amazing! But the white and red one appeals to me in a way the other one doesn't.

  4. I love both covers but the red & white version is the winner for me, makes me want to read it now!

  5. Personally I WISH they had stuck with the original design, but that's ok...I definitely prefer the US! :) Love the orange, it's a good color gor the fiery Celaena!

  6. The second cover is more striking to me, but honestly, it detracts from the title. The second cover title against the background red flames is....difficult to focus on. The first cover has better title contrast, font and color wise, but is more subtle on the cover art in some way which I have no words for. But hey...pretty!

  7. It's a close call; both are striking. But if I had to pick one, I'd go for the one on the left. The title's font works better for me, and while I'm not usually a fan of orange, it works well here!

  8. Close call. The one on the right by a narrow margin. I like the contrast between the white and the red. The orange background is cool, but the girl blends in more on that cover.

  9. I like the one on the left! Can't wait for it!!

  10. I would have to say the second onescoliring is less distracting to me and it draws me more than the first one does.
