Fairy Tale Fashions: ARIEL Lookbook

Some of you may recall that I did a few Jane Austen character-themed "lookbooks" for Austen in August last year. (Others of you will just know I love finding very time-consuming things with which to procrastinate...) I thought we should definitely do FTF-themed lookbooks, too, so today I give you the first: Ariel.

I thought Ariel was the best place to start because let's be honest- who didn't want to be her as a kid? (And maybe still...) While I think a lot of people would dress Ariel in sea-shell themed and all-around beachy clothing, my take on Ariel is that she's much more color-bold. I mean, a girl who matches a purple clamshell bustier with green scales and red hair? Clearly she likes to play with bold jewel tones. I mostly kept with her original preferred palette, but I did toss in some other colors I think she'd love, as well as a nautical look as a modern nod to her roots. I also mostly kept to peplum, ruffled and mermaid cuts, and things to show off the legs, 'cause hello? Also - nary a heel in sight for this recently legged gal. ;)
More on my choices below!

If you want to do your own fairy tale lookbook, please do, and link it up on the linky!!

fairy tales, fashion, lookbooks, the little mermaid

1st looks: Ariel would love a good, chic frock. For Ariel, it's all about the gams - you don't trade away your beautiful voice for a pair of legs and then not show them off, amirite? But a girl gets nostalgic, so I kept with Ariel's typical palette (for the most part).
In this look: teal/green dress options: sheath dresscolor blocked dress, or a ruffle dress; a bold purple bag for pop,  Fuscia flats and jewel-toned bracelets to finish off the look.

2nd look: Ariel's gotta have at least one outfit that's a tongue-in-cheek nod to her sea origins, and what better way to do that than with nautical stripes and navy & white polka dot?

3rd looks: More tealish-green and aqua for our mermaid, plus a few more pieces of her signature purple, and some more bold color pops. More shapes for Ariel to play with in this look, with scale-mimicing ruffles, slightly-mermaid cut, flowy flares and a slinky bandage dress for a night out on the town with Eric. ;)
In this lookPurple bandage dressTiered ruffle blouse & Purple skinny jeansAqua dresscoral ballet flat or aqua flats, 'cause no heels for this gal; turquoise drop earrings and bright yellow purse for pop!

So, do you agree to disagree with how I styled everyone's favorite mermaid? How would you style her? Let me know in the comments, and if you want to try your hand at a lookbook, make sure to share it for FTF!

  1. I love this type of post! I would love to see more like this from you in the future, Misty! And showing off the legs, great! The long aqua dress on the right is my favorite, but Ariel WOULD wear all of these.

And what is that lovely font??

  2. They're really fun to do! I really do need to do more of them in the future.

    And which font, Bonnie?

  3. I agree that Ariel was the right choice to start with and I agree with Bonnie, that aqua dress on the right with high front, low back on the legs is so Ariel! I know it's her first day with new feet but she might like some of those shoes a la Carrie Bradshaw. Make her strut a little bit. She needs everything working for her with no voice.

  5. I think that Ariel would love accessories and jewellery if her secret collection is anything to go by.

She would especially love hair accessories.
