I'll be popping in on Monday with one more catch-up video, and the blog will probably be fairly video-heavy for awhile to come, at least, because that's just where my head's at. But I'll try to wriggle in some written content soon, too.
But for now... let's catch up.
I've heard good things about the Winter Sisters by Tim Westover. I haven't read it yet, but its been on some lists. Sounds like something you might enjoy :)
ReplyDeleteWelcome back! I'm sorry you have had a rough year.
I'll have to look into that one, thanks!
DeleteThis was a scrambled year for me, too, but not like yours. Glad you are digging your way out. :)
ReplyDeleteSlowly but surely!
DeleteI'm so glad you're OK! And so sorry you've been struggling- energy drains are terrible and I hate that it robbed you of things normally enjoyable and sacred to you. I hope you're getting relief for the chronic pain! Whether you're back temporarily, permanently, a little, or a lot....I look forward to seeing you when you're here, and hearing about your life.
ReplyDeleteMine is utter chaos, but self-directed, so it's good- getting divorced, selling my hours, moving to Virginia (in 6 weeks).
I did try to send snail mail, but USPS pretty regularly was eating everything I sent. I went through a pretty solid reading slump, but I am currently loving Beach Read by Emily Henry. Have you read it?
Rec-wise, have you read Chocolat by Joanne Harris? Bitter Greens by Kate Forsyth?
Things are getting better, and my pain levels have been lower lately 🙌 but tbh, all I do for "management" is try to stay just after enough to be limber, but not so active that I have a flare up. It's...not a good system. 😂 But I don't want to be on pain pills or muscle relaxers, and getting anything done through our medical system is a joke.
DeleteI'm sorry to hear about your divorce! I hope everything is just straight upwards trajectory from here on out. Make sure you send me your new address when you move! I have a card for you, but don't want to send it while you're moving, unless you'll still be at the same address for awhile yet. I know that tends to be up in the air when trying to sell. Virgina! That's A BIG change!
I'm waiting for Beach Read to come in at the library, and I haven't read the other two, but bitter greens has been on my list for awhile now. I might have it? I don't remember.
For that matter, I think I might own chocolat, too. 😂
Glad you are back. I feel broken, too.

DeleteMisty! I've been looking for you! I'm so, so sorry that you've had so very much wrongness in your life. My aunt had coronavirus as well and it just left her exhausted for months. Add debilitating back pain? I can't imagine. I'm glad you're back, even if it is just for one post.
ReplyDeleteI disappeared in October 2016 and just came back in late June. Just too much stress at work, some grief issues, some re-evaluation of priorities, that kind of life stuff. I wrote about it and should probably link that to my About page now that I think about it.
My husband and I are traveling with his job. That's in my own rambling comeback post. I love sending out snail mail. My mom, sister, and grandmother collect postcards so I'm constantly mailing those. I've added my cousin's little girl into the loop because she loves mail. And if I see a card or sticker or earrings or bookmark or something that reminds me of someone I love, I buy it and ship it. We all need little pick-me-ups this year, I think.
Recommendations? I have three that might work for you. The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune is whimsical and inclusive and made my heart so happy. Geekerella by Ashley Poston, which has been out a while so you may have read it. But the third book in the very loose series, Bookish and the Beast, was just published a month or so ago. Fairy tale retellings set around what's essentially Comic Con? Yes, please. I grin from ear to ear as I read these books. And the last one is maybe more of a stretch but I just finished it last night so it's on my mind. I read it for Banned Books Week, which starts today, and I strongly associate you with BBW. You're probably the one who brought it to my attention in the first place. Anyway, the title is George and it's by Alex Gino. It's another book that filled my heart up, about a little girl named George who was born as a boy but knows she's a girl. She wants to be Charlotte in the class production of Charlotte's Web.
And this comment is now so long I've probably exhausted you and I should call it a post instead of a comment. But I'm so glad you're okay. ♥️
Glad to hear you're back!! I think it's good to take time to reevaluate every now and then, and make things work for where you are now, rather than holding to where you were when you started.
DeleteI've read the first Ashly Poston book, but none of the others you mentioned. But I feel like I've heard a lot of positive feedback for Cerulean Sea.
I'll keep them in my mental notes!
Oh, my goodness, Misty! I'm so sorry you've been going through this. It must have been terrifying to get sick and not know when and if you were going to get better. I'm so glad to hear you're emerging from the other end of the tunnel!
ReplyDeleteI can identify with the chronic illness and fatigue, since I have fibromyalgia, so I know what it's like to feel you're too tired to care, and everything seems too much of an effort. I struggle with that whenever I have flare-ups. I have to say, having a community of readers out there that I can connect and reconnect with is so helpful, so I hope you can muster the energy to reach out again. Take your time, take care of yourself, and come back soon!
My best friend has fibro, so in familiar, and sorry you have to deal with that.
DeleteCommunity really DOES make things better! It gives you both a place to commiserate and be heard, and a place to distract from what you had to commiserate about.
