THE ACCIDENT SEASON by Moïra Fowley-Doyle | Review

This review is long overdue, seeing as I've been raving about this book for nearly two solid months now. It's easily going to nab a spot in my top books of 2015, and it may well even take top honors.
So here it is, my thoughts on the FAB debut by Moïra Fowley-Doyle, The Accident Season.
When you're done hearing my thoughts, you can hop over to the excerpt I shared to get a feel for the writing. ^_^

Contemporary/Magical Realism/Paranormal, 304 pages
Expected publication: August 18th 2015 by Kathy Dawson Books  (PenguinRandomHouse)
It's the accident season, the same time every year. Bones break, skin tears, bruises bloom.

The accident season has been part of seventeen-year-old Cara's life for as long as she can remember. Towards the end of October, foreshadowed by the deaths of many relatives before them, Cara's family becomes inexplicably accident-prone. They banish knives to locked drawers, cover sharp table edges with padding, switch off electrical items - but injuries follow wherever they go, and the accident season becomes an ever-growing obsession and fear.

But why are they so cursed? And how can they break free?

  1. I'm glad my intuition about this one was spot on. When you described it before, it sounded like a must read for me, but your hints of what to expect make me certain. I'm intrigued most about the out there stuff that makes it evocative.

And the sound effects were hilarious! My neighborhood is like that. It can be quiet, but then out of the blue everyone is outside trying to out due each other. :)

    1. Oh man, what I showed in the beginning was such a SMALL fraction of the noise that went on while I was recording. So many noises! And it went on for ages! I actually had to completely stop at one point for at least 10 minutes, because of the people yelling outside. Ugh.
Anyway, if you end up reading this, hope you like it! =D

  2. You're going purple now? I love it! Again, hair matching lippy- yay!
Thanks for the review- everyone who reads it, apparently, has loved it, so I can't wait to read it myself. I lovedy love when an author's debut book is universally amazing.

  3. UGH! This book sounds amazing! I can't wait to read it. Once I have money haha... And if you can believe it, the noise level is worse where I'm at. Granted I'm in a dorm, but I never realized people cannot drive in Evansville, IN until I went to college here. Plus, I'm in a dorm with no AC so it's three noisy fans and the windows open for me which is part of the reason why I had to postpone having a Youtube channel. Anywho, as usual, a great review. :)
