Friday Face Off: Attachments by Rainbow Rowell

I'm pretty sure that when we look back on it, 2014 will be remembered as the Year of Rainbow Rowell. The fangirl is strong in her corner of the internets, and it seemed like for awhile there, you couldn't throw a stick without hitting Rainbow Rowell in the internet-face. (You really should stop throwing internet-sticks, you know. Unless it's to a digital dog. Otherwise, it's just not safe. Ask Rainbow.)
So it's maybe a little bit surprising that she hasn't really ended up on this blog in some form or another before now. So TODAY IS THE DAY, FOLKS. Today we're taking a look at three different versions of her book Attachments, each of which take a simple color-blocked and silhouetted style choice for their covers. I'll leave the synopsis on this one, so if you haven't read it you can use it to help make your decision, but that's not a must. Feel free to weigh in on which would catch your eye in the bookstore. Which would engage you and make you want to pick it up and find out more? And if you have read it, which one do you think suits it most?
Which one did it better?

"Hi, I'm the guy who reads your e-mail, and also, I love you . . . "

Beth Fremont and Jennifer Scribner-Snyder know that somebody is monitoring their work e-mail. (Everybody in the newsroom knows. It's company policy.) But they can't quite bring themselves to take it seriously. They go on sending each other endless and endlessly hilarious e-mails, discussing every aspect of their personal lives.

Meanwhile, Lincoln O'Neill can't believe this is his job now- reading other people's e-mail. When he applied to be "internet security officer," he pictured himself building firewalls and crushing hackers- not writing up a report every time a sports reporter forwards a dirty joke.

When Lincoln comes across Beth's and Jennifer's messages, he knows he should turn them in. But he can't help being entertained-and captivated-by their stories.

By the time Lincoln realizes he's falling for Beth, it's way too late to introduce himself.

What would he say . . . ?

Side note: I think I kinda need this book now.

Last Time on FFO: We took a look at two different versions of Jennifer Mathieu's The Truth About Alice (a book which I recently said has one of my favorite covers of the year), and though it was a close vote, the unsettling and striking US cover won in the end.

  1. This was the first Rainbow Rowell book I read (well, more like I speed-read it!) and it was adorable! I think all the covers are nice but my favorite has to be the one on the left.

  2. I love love LOVE Rainbow Rowell, and would never through internet-sticks in her internet-face. Attachments is gorgeous, and I feel torn between the first two covers here... I think I will go the second one, though. Middle one! <3

  3. There's a character with my name whose NOT "the bitch" so it's on my wishlist. :)
I think the middle/second cover is my favorite. Having 3 sections and silhouettes automatically adds tension and intrigue, making it less like a smoochy romance (on the right) or random office-related something (on the left).

  4. Middle one is good, but cluttered. Right is really off the mark, doesn't really fit the story. I vote for the simplicity of the one on the left.

  5. I ADORE this book! Quite possibly my favorite read of the year so far, and my favorite cover would be the one on the far left. It's simple and you easily get an idea of what the book is about. - Maggie @ An American in France
