Top Ten Popular Authors I've Never Read | Top Ten Tuesday

You know, I've been meaning to start participating in The Broke & The Bookish's Top Ten Tuesday for the longest time, but aside from the occasional vlog, it hasn't happened. And though I don't think I'll necessarily post every week, I do intend to start joining in with the ones that catch my attention the most. And yeah, Tuesday is almost over, but no time like the present, right?  So here we have my first TTT:
Top Ten Popular Authors I've Never Read.

I decided to do a little spin on this, 'cause I'm sure there are plenty of popular authors I've never read (and plenty I never intend to, even), but mostly when I think of popular authors I think of underread ones &mdash: I've read them, but maybe only 1 book before I decided they weren't for me, so they technically wouldn't count for this list.
Instead, I decided to go with popular authors whose books I own (sometimes by the boatload), and yet I've never read them. So maybe popular authors who make me feel a little guilty? I mean, I already own all of these books. I literally have no excuse* not to read them...
Anyway, here are my Top Ten popular authors I have yet to read!

*Other than the 999 other books clamoring to be read. Other than that.

1. Meg Cabot — I own, like, all the things by Meg Cabot ALL. THE. THINGS. Haven't read a-one of them.

2. Sarah Dessen — Every one tells me to read her, but I really don't have much of a desire to. Couldn't tell you why, but try your best to convince me, if you're so inclined.... It will probably do you zero amounts of good.

3. David Levithan — I keep meaning to read David Levithan, whose name I always want to type as Leviathan, which is kinda badass, but whatever; I mean to, they always sound good, and I own a number of them. Just hasn't happened.

4. Francesca Lia Block — See: Meg Cabot, all the things, substitute FLB.

5. Neal Shusterman — I actually feel bad about this one, 'cause my little sister, who is not a reader came home talking about this book (Unwind), and has consistently asked me to read it for at least 5 years. And it even sounds really good to me! Just haven't managed to pick it up yet.

6. Douglas Adams — I think it's pretty much a given that I will adore the Hitchhiker's Guide series. I even bought the fanceh cover, which is the closest thing to looking like a Bible that I own. I reference the thing without having read it. That's kinda ridiculous...

7. Diana Wynne Jones — I was so close to reading Howl's Moving Castle (which, incidentally, is just one of the many DWJ books I own...) a couple months ago, but another book won out. LOVE the movie, know I would love the book, really need to get around to it.

8. Courtney Summers — Much like Cabot and Block, I've felt the need to buy pretty much everything Summers has written...and yet read none of them.

9. Terry Pratchett — See: Adams, replace with Pratchett. I know I will love him, and I own a fair few Discworld books.

10. Veronica Roth — I preordered Divergent because I was so excited for it. Why in the world have I not read it?

And there you have it: my top ten unread pop authors! Who are a few of yours, and what's stopping you?

  1. Oh, Howl's Moving Castle is awesome! Quite different from the movie but such a quirky, humorous read. And you haven't read any Meg Cabot? *gasps* Well, not all of her books are equally good but for some lighthearted paranormal fun I would totally recommend the Mediator series.

    1. I have AT LEAST a dozen books by her, including the first two books of the mediator series... I keep picking up Jinx, which a friend has been recommending for years, but something always happens and I put it down again. I think I'm going to do a Stack of Five with her books one of these days, that way I'll at least get a start...

  2. Charles Dickens. I have a beautiful copy of Great Expectations on my shelf that I got for my 21st birthday (>coughthreeyearsagocough<) and my mum even COLLECTS Dickens' books because she loves them so much, but still. Have not read. one day?

    1. When I was 9, I was obsessed with Oliver Twist. First book that I ever read multiple times, and I read it MANY. I can see why he wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea, or why he'd be daunting to tackle, but he holds a special place in my heart as a result.

  5. I've also not yet read DIVERGENT in spite of having all three of the titles in my TBR (and having had the first two there for quite some time).

I've also amassed a large Terry Pratchett series and have only kind of sort of read him so far - I read GOOD OMENS but none of his solo stuff as of yet. Hubs is a HUGE fan of his work, too. Shame, shame on me.

    1. Well, you've got one up on me, 'cause I haven't read ANY Pratchett. lol!

  6. Diana Wynne Jones AND Douglas Adams? You gotta get on that! Especially Diana Wynne Jones. The Other Lamm would faint if he learned you hadn't read Douglas Adams, but Diana Wynne Jones will always have the biggest chunk of my heart. I still can't believe I haven't read CINDER yet. I put it off because I feared being influenced by it too much, but I'm all outlined and good to go, now. I think I'll read it next. That or DAYS OF BLOOD AND STARLIGHT. Maybe LIVES OF THE MONSTER DOGS. All the things by A.S. King. And I still haven't read everything by Diana Wynne Jones. I am a hypocrite. But seriously: HOWL'S MOVING CASTLE and CASTLE IN THE AIR. Read them. So good. The narrative is something that did not come across in the film (although I also loved it), and it's just so clever and fun. Douglas Adams is like that, too. His voice cannot be translated into film. He and Jones are both worth reading. Terry Pratchett, too… I'll stop rambling now.

    1. I know, I really DO need to read DWJ. I have at least 4 books by her, and possibly more, and have had for years - one I think I've had since I was like 16, and I still haven't read it!
Same with Douglas Adams. I've been positive since I was a teenager that I should read these books 'cause I'd like them. I think what's holding me off (same as with Pratchett) is that I think I'll feel the need to read all of them in quick succession, which makes it a much bigger undertaking than just, Hey, I'm going to read this book...

PLEASE read Days of Blood and Starlight! I mean, read Cinder and AS King, too, because they are marvelous (and AS King continuously impresses me with how powerful and how different each of her stories are. She's amazing), but I'd be really curious to hear what you think of DOBAS, AND it's just gorgeously lyrical and lovely (though some people hated it. I can see why, but I ate it up, and think book 2 blew it out of the water, which I didn't think was possible).

  7. I haven't read anything by Sarah Dessen either! I've been told over and over again to do it, but I haven't for some reason. I've only read the first three Princess Diaries by Cabot (by the third, I lost interest), but I've read some of her chick lit and enjoyed it. I especially love the Heather Wells series! Ex popstar turned college student who starts investigating murders? With hilarity and a cute guy? Yeah!

I have yet to read the last two books by Roth, but I really loved Divergent. I've also read Weetzie Bat by Block, but I didn't really like it. The Wee Free Men by Pratchett, however, is hilarious! I keep meaning to read more of his books, but I haven't. I have Every Day by Levithan & Howls Moving Castle on my shelves, but can't seem to get to them. Who knows why?! I've always wanted to read Douglas Adams, but I haven't yet. Hitchhikers Guide is actually on my list for a reading challenge, so hopefully that'll get it in my hands at some point this year.

So many books! Here's to hoping we both get to them before too long!

    1. I have not one but TWO books from the Heather Wells series. I got book one in a mixed lot of Cabot's books (which is how I ended up with so many of them to begin with), and then the publishers sent me book 4 before it came out, but since I hadn't read the rest of the series, I obviously wasn't about to start there. I've been told I'd love it, though.

  8. Read Divergent, Misty! promise you'll love it! Or listen to the audiobook! I did that for parts of Divergent when I couldn't read at night. It was such a visual experience (ironic, I know) just picturing everything happening as I lay in bed and the narrator telling Tris's story. :D Plus, the movie is out soon! You know you want to.

    1. I do need to read it. I'd intended to read it before the movie came out, but that's obviously not gonna happen. Kinda snuck up on me...
