There’s nothing real about reality TV.

Seventeen-year-old Bonnie™ Baker has grown up on TV—she and her twelve siblings are the stars of one-time hit reality show Baker’s Dozen. Since the show’s cancellation and the scandal surrounding it, Bonnie™ has tried to live a normal life, under the radar and out of the spotlight. But it’s about to fall apart…because Baker’s Dozen is going back on the air. Bonnie™’s mom and the show’s producers won’t let her quit and soon the life she has so carefully built for herself, with real friends (and maybe even a real boyfriend), is in danger of being destroyed by the show. Bonnie™ needs to do something drastic if her life is ever going to be her own—even if it means being more exposed than ever before.

  1. Something about that (TM) at the end of the protag's name is just /way/ too cool. It's the novelty of it, I suppose; you don't often see that kind of naming device for real people. It's a clever, quick 'n' visual way to show what kind of story this is meant to be. My interest is piqued. (:

  2. Love your review of Something Real! I'm reading Me Since You right now, and there are some incidents in the book in which the main characters deal with Internet hate. I had a similar reaction to you (although Me Since You is very much meant to be sad and dramatic). I wanted to feel like, "Well, this wouldn't happen in real life." But it does. So anyway, I would love to read Something Real to see a different take on that. - Franny

  5. It's kind of like those poor twin girls from Jon & Kate+8...you watched them grow up and all, but you feel so bad for them now, with their mom forcing them to do interviews and you can tell that they want nothing to do with the cameras anymore. That's why I want to read this. :)

  7. The fact that this was inspired by Jon and Kate Plus Eight intrigues me so much. I think that show was ridiculous exploitive, and I want to see the take that Heather has on that type of story. Also the cover is awesome. Really attracts you in!

Thanks for the chance to win.

  8. I want to read Something Real because of the privacy issues you brought up. I don't follow celebrity gossip because I believe that everyone is entitled to their privacy, but I would love to read a fictional version of a reality TV show.

  9. (This is Darith L)

Reality shows seem to be the new thing in YA! I think A. S. King is coming out with a book called Reality Boy about a reality child star. So I am very intrigued by the topic!
