Book Chat: Books for Our Younger Selves

Who's ready to connect with their inner screaming toddler?
No? Nobody?
You there, in the corner! How about you?!
;)

September always gets me thinking about childhood books, middle grade adventures, etc. All the back-to-school-ness everywhere you look, the cooler weather and the desire to curl up with hot cider and a book makes me a little wistful for some childhood faves.
So I thought for this month's Book Chat we would talk about books that we wish we could give to our younger selves.
As always, I'd love to see your responses, whether in vlog or blog form; feel free to interpret it as you see fit, and then link them up as video responses and/or at the linky at the bottom!

Have fun, and thanks for watching!!

  1. I've got to win the lottery, buy every wonderful book on the planet, then retire to a desert island to read in glorious tropical solitude for the next ten years lol <3 *sigh*

  2. I'm a nanny and I WISH I could recommend books to the kids I nanny for. I would recommend the Sebastian [Super sleuth] series. I loved those as a kid and recently tracked them down and am going to give them to my nephew when he's older he's only 3 and they are middle grade books but I'll read them to him.
The kids I nanny for aren't allowed to read anything that isn't Jewish and since I'm not Jewish and don't know of any Jewish stories, I can't recommend books to them which makes me really sad.

  3. Oh, that SUCKS, Moirae! There have got to be some good lists of Jewish kidlit out there...
Still, though. Not being able to recommend something you love, that you think THEY'LL love - that sucks.

  4. Exactly! I have found other books that I know the kids would love but they aren't Jewish stories. I need find a site for Jewish children's books so I can get some to recommend.

  5. Nothing that isn't Jewish? Isn't that a bit strict - ah my, happy childhood - no reading constrictions. :)

    From top of my head:
My Donkey Benjamin, (Childrens Picture Book, a German cult classic)

    And then:
Lady and the Tramp, by Ward Greene
Howl's Moving Castle, by Diana Wynne Jones
Ella Enchanted, by Gail Carson Levin

  6. Growing up I loved the Bearstein Bear books. Once I got a little older I devoured all the Nancy Drew books. So some books that I have read as an adult that I know I would have loved as a kid would be the Gallagher Girl series by Ally Carter, anything written by Jessica Day George, also any of Shannon Hales YA books. This is a cute idea I have already recommended the Gallagher Girls to my niece I think she will love them!!!
