Friday Face Off: Unspoken vs. The Book of Lost Things

Of course the following two covers are by no means cover twins, but I can't see Sarah Rees Brennan's Unspoken without thinking of John Connolly's The Book of Lost Things. The colors and the silhouettes, the filigree and the feel of both makes them sort of look like they could be two covers in a series, two stages in the same story. But which would you reach for on the shelves? Which makes you most curious about the story inside?
Which one did it better?

Last Week on FFO: The paperback versions and hardcover versions of both the US and UK copies for Philip Reeve's Fever Crumb went head to head, and just like the covers, the votes were all over the place. In the end, though, most of you preferred the US paperback more (even though it looks like Enclave, which I guess could be a Face Off in itself...). Most of you were also really put off by the UK covers - especially the skull...what was that?

  1. I prefer Unspoken. More for the reason that I don't really like Conolly's writing that much but also because the font is just prettier on Unspoken. Gilded, elegant wrought iron gates are also a thing of mine.

  2. I like the one with the silhouette.

  3. Probably Unspoken... I find the way the text is intertwined with the ivy on The Book of Lost Things kind of distracting and overwhelming when put next to Unspoken

  4. They're both good but I'm picking John Connolly's The Book of Lost Things, by a whisker.

  5. The Book of Lost Things is definitely better. I really like the old classic look. Great picks this week.

  8. I think i prefer Unspoken just a tad more. Might be something to do with the gates...they're quite intriguing...where do they lead? :)

  9. I adore The Book of Lost Things as a book, but the Unspoken cover wins for me. I saw it and it reminded me of John Connolly's The Gates, actually.

  10. It's too late for my vote to count, but I still want to support The Book of Lost Things cover. I do like Unspoken, but not nearly so much.

I don't like the cutout of the girl quite so much, and I think Connolly's says Fairy Tale a bit more. I love the creepy guy in the tree!
