I'm sure you've seen it already, but if you haven't...

here's Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss.
Entertainment Weekly made the big reveal last night, and I have to say, I'm pleased.  I have not been a fan of the casting choices for the Hunger Games movie across the board, but this makes me feel like maybe, just maybe, they're actually going to get it right:

Lawrence says:
‘“He [Ross] was asking me what the experience was like,” she recalls, “and I just kind of opened up and said, ‘I feel like a rag doll. I have hair and makeup people coming to my house every day and putting me in new, uncomfortable, weird dresses and expensive shoes, and I just shut down and raise my arms up for them to get the dress on, and pout my lips when they need to put the lipstick on.’ And we both started laughing because that’s exactly what it’s like for Katniss in the Capitol. She was a girl who’s all of a sudden being introduced to fame. I know what that feels like to have all this flurry around you and feel like, ‘Oh, no, I don’t belong here.’”
...
“I knew that as soon as I said yes, my life would change,” she says. “And I walked around an entire day thinking ‘It’s not too late, I could still go back and do indies, I haven’t said yes yet, it’s not too late...I love this story,” she says, “and if I had said no, I would regret it every day.”

So what do you guys think of Jennifer as Katniss?  And how do you feel about the casting in general?

  1. I haven't seen Lawrence in anything before, but I've heard she's a really good actress so I have high hopes for what she will do in the role! And the picture looks great, she does capture how I imagined Katniss from the books!

  2. I wasn't pleased at the casting at first but I don't think anyone is when a book is turned into a movie. Everyone had their own different ideas of what the characters should look like.

Anyway, I hope she does a great job because this story deserves it.

Now they have some major convincing to do to sell me on Peeta.

  7. I still don't like that Katniss isn't a person of color. What's wrong with having a black lead actress?
