In the night, I hear 'em talk, coldest story ever told...

As I'm sure some of you have seen by now, the cover for the next book in the Parasol Protectorate series, Heartless, has been released...

And, um...I don't like it.  *cringes*
I hate to speak ill of my darling Alexia, or anything related to the Parasol Protectorate series, but I do not like this cover.  I mean, there are elements that are okay, but honestly, it looks like fan art made with Photoshop.  The "Alexia" (I assume) in this one looks like she may be bald (look how far her hairline goes back under that hat), and that her copious amounts of hair are attached to her hat.  Her face is at a really weird angle, too, like maybe it's not her face, but that it was photoshopped on, too.
I do not like.
The only thing to really like about this cover is that Gail Carriger got her desired (and I quote) "'Baby Got Bustle' tramp stamp shot."

What do you guys think of the new cover?

  1. Sadly, I cringed at the cover as well >.< It's just not the same kind of gorgeous the other covers were.

  2. I really don't like this cover either. When I saw it, I was really hoping it was a poorly made fan art. I don't like the matchy-matchiness of the dress and the title. The model just looks weird. All of the previous covers have been beautiful, but this one is just bleh.

  3. OMG not loving it either. So sad, because all the other covers are beautiful.

  4. Yes. I totally agree! And I hate weird neck angles.

  5. Now when you pointed it out, it looks quite fake and photoshopped! :(

  7. I hadn't noticed the whole hair-hat thing until you pointed it out, but now I can't stop noticing it! It's kind of awful.

  8. Yes, everyone, the other covers WHERE so beautiful, and that's what makes this so disappointing. I mean, you can see where they're going with it, but they just failed. The neck and the hair are DRIVING ME NUTS.

And lol at YA Vamp Books....it seemed appropriate. :P

Oh, dear. =S You'd think that someone whose first three books were successful enough to get her a fourth would be given a better cover. I'd understand this as a first cover for an untried author . . . But then again, the debut authors seem to get lovely covers that reel us in immediately, don't they? Perhaps the publishers are so sure that people are going to buy Heartless that they're holding back on the cover art?

  11. um yeah, not loving that cover either. That lady doesn't even look like the first three...maybe that's the point...hmmm. Hopefully the story does make up for it!

  12. You know, I didn't even think of that, but you could be right, Enbrethiliel.

  13. I'm right there with you! What is up with changing the entire look of cover girl? It's terrible! Why go and mess up a good thing?

  14. Omg is this for real? I completely agree, this looks like an amateur Photoshop project. Especially seeing the behind-the-scenes vid for making the third one (which is amazing! If you haven't seen it yet, search for it on YouTube). Please tell me this is an unfinished preview?!

  15. I thought the girl looked kind of bald with a combover. Overall not an attractive cover.
