TBR Tuesday: Firelight

I have a lot of books I've bought or received in a fury of excitement, only to have them languish on the shelves.  This is one of those books.

Firelight (Firelight, #1)
by Sophie Jordan

A hidden truth.
Mortal enemies.
Doomed love.

Marked as special at an early age, Jacinda knows her every move is watched. But she longs for freedom to make her own choices. When she breaks the most sacred tenet among her kind, she nearly pays with her life. Until a beautiful stranger saves her. A stranger who was sent to hunt those like her. For Jacinda is a draki—a descendant of dragons whose greatest defense is her secret ability to shift into human form.
Forced to flee into the mortal world with her family, Jacinda struggles to adapt to her new surroundings. The only bright light is Will. Gorgeous, elusive Will who stirs her inner draki to life. Although she is irresistibly drawn to him, Jacinda knows Will's dark secret: He and his family are hunters. She should avoid him at all costs. But her inner draki is slowly slipping away—if it dies she will be left as a human forever. She'll do anything to prevent that. Even if it means getting closer to her most dangerous enemy.
Mythical powers and breathtaking romance ignite in this story of a girl who defies all expectations and whose love crosses an ancient divide.

I absolutely fell in love with this cover when I saw it.  It's stunning.  I was super, super happy to get my hands on it, and I read the first few pages to get a feel for the writing at a time when I knew I didn't have time to read it -- and I haven't really picked it up since.  I have yet to read a dragon book of any kind (save The Hero and the Crown, I guess), so I think I need some encouragement for this one.  Help me break my no-dragons streak...

So, what do you guys think?  Anyone read this?  What's on your tbr pile?

*Also, on a side note: you may have noticed the new TBR Tuesday button up there (which I've since added to all of the rest of the TBRT posts).  Just thought I'd let you know it features the awesome, book lovin' Shirley-rat, who I lost on Christmas day.  This way, she still gets to be a part of all the Book Rattiness.

  1. I read this and thought it was all right. I liked it well enough to recommend it to people who think they might be interested. Here's my review if you're interested: http://tahleenreads.blogspot.com/2010/09/review-firelight-by-sophie-jordan.html

  2. I'd never read a book with dragons and enjoyed Firelight. Yes, you have the whole hunter/prey/love triangle aspect of the story that draws you in, but the book touches on more topics than a lot of the YA Romance I've read and that seemed to give it some depth. - Interspecies hierarchy/power struggle/twin rivalry (especially since one twin never manifested into a dragon)

As for the draki aspect of the book...I just found it fascinating, but couldn't really compare it to anything. I'd recommend this and plan on reading the sequel to this.
